Arnold E. "Bud" Wissinger, 87, of 308 Nottingham Road in Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at his home.
Born Monday, May 11, 1925, in Smithsburg, Md., he was the son of the late Daniel Webster Wissinger and Goldie (Pryor) Wissinger.
He was preceded in death by his loving and only wife of 44 years, Dolly Jeanette Wissinger, in 1996.
He attended school in Smithsburg.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy on board the destroyer USS Clarence L. Evans in the Atlantic.
He was employed by Miller's Furniture Store for 27 years, Sears for eight years and the Washington County Roads Department for 10 years, retiring in 1990.
He is survived by his daughters, Roxie D. Linn of State Line, Pa., and Katrina W. Hoopes of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Wayne Wissinger of Greencastle, Pa.; grandchildren, Kalena "Nikki" Lapole, Natalie Hershey, Charles Wissinger, Zachary Hoopes and Emily Wissinger; and great-grandchildren, London Hershey and Brock Lapole.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Marguerite Barr.
Services will be Monday, July 23, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, with the Rev. Gordon A. Hensley officiating. Interment will be at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends Monday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
