John Preston Turner, 65, of Richland, Texas, and formerly of 13905 Weaver Ave. in Maugansville, Md., died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, of health complications.

Born Feb. 7, 1947, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Norman P. and Dorothy L. Turner.

John graduated from North Hagerstown High School in 1965.

He was also a U.S. Army veteran of 18 years.

He was a member of local Boy Scouts of America Troop 2, and also held the position of Cubmaster in Texas.

John retired from Siemens, where he was a computer programmer. Upon retiring, he and his wife became very involved with the Tres Rios RV Resort in Texas, where he became known as the local "Top Chef."

He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Beverly; daughter, Davina; son, Jonathon; stepson, Stephen; a daughter from a previous marriage, Ruth; five grandchildren, Parker, Preston, Stephen Jr., Michael and Brandon; three sisters, Jackie Price and Karen Gogan, both of Hagerstown, and Kathy Kline of Maugansville; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A gathering of family and friends was held Saturday, June 23, 2012, at Twin Oaks Baptist Church in Texas.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or Boy Scouts of America.
