For a good cause

July 18, 2012|Susie Hoffman | Around Funkstown

The county is deeply embedded in summer and all the wonderful things that come with it —  picnics, swimming, ball games and vacations.

Organization is a must when tackling all of these crazy schedules.

There is a company that makes totes, bags, backpacks and other items that, while stylish, are also practical and affordable.

Add to that the possibility of contributing to a good cause — autism awareness — and you have a win-win situation. From now through July 25, you can go online at www.mythirtyone.com/JulieMalecki/ and click on the tab for “My Events.” You will see an “Autism Fundraiser” show that you can order from directly. Another way to help is to go to the web and collect orders from friends, or host a show of your own.

Autism affects more families than you can imagine. Why not check out a great way to do some good.

Re-enactment weekend

Don’t forget the Civil War encampment this weekend in Funkstown. Street battles and full camps of living history will occupy the town and park. Vendors and musicians, horses and cannons, women in hoop skirts and campfires.

Ag Expo to start

Sweet corn, fresh peaches, ripe black raspberries. Ahh, summer.  God bless the growers of summer’s bounty. Did you realize the Washington County Ag Expo & Fair starts this weekend?  Some of the activities planned for this weeklong expo and fair include make-and-take 4-H projects, thank a farmer activities (I like the sound of that one), petting farm, carnival rides and Barnyard Olympics, to name a few.
