CAMBRIDGE, Md. — Xavier Dominguez had three hits, including a game-tying grand slam and a game-winning two-run double, as West End defeated Brunswick 12-11 in a winners’ bracket semifinal at the Maryland State 10-11 Little League Tournament.
West End will face Berlin — last year’s 9-10 state champions — in the winners’ bracket final tonight at 5:30.
The semifinal was started Sunday, with West End holding a 5-0 lead with one out in the top of the second inning when rain forced a suspension. By the end of the top of the second on Monday, Brunswick had scored nine runs for a 9-5 lead.
Dominguez’s grand slam in the fourth tied the game at 9, and Chase McCoy’s RBI single gave West End a 10-9 lead.
Brunswick scored twice in the top of the fifth for an 11-10 lead, but Dominguez came up big again in the bottom half, with his double giving West End the lead back for good.
Joseph Ringus saw to that, pitching a perfect sixth inning to wrap up the victory.
McCoy finished with two hits for West End.
