10-11 State: West End wins in 10 innings

CAMBRIDGE, Md. — West End rallied for four runs in the bottom of the 10th inning to open the Maryland State 10-11 Tournament with a 7-6 victory over Elkton.

West End, the District 1 champion, and District 5 winner Elkton were knotted in a 3-all tie after six and the teams went scoreless until the top of the 10th when Elkton pushed across three runs.

But West End shaved one run off the deficit, then loaded the bases for Chase McCoy, who ended the game with a three-run single.

West End returns to action today at 4 p.m. against Brunswick.

Stevie Billman had three hits for West End and McCoy, Butchie Sisler, Branson Dillinger and Mikey Collazo had two hits each.

Sharpsburg girls win

CHESAPEAKE, Md. — Sharpsburg picked up a victory in the Maryland State 10-11 Tournament on Saturday, defeating Chesapeake 15-12.

Sharpsburg is scheduled to play in the championship round today at 11.

Jordan Houser, of Chambersburg, Pa., fired a hole-in-one at Yingling’s Golf Center using a pitching wedge on the 78-yard 5th hole. Alex Hartzok and Cody Doyle witnessed the ace.
