A Frederick, Md., man was arrested Thursday in connection with a report of shots fired earlier this week, Frederick police said.

Derrick Goines, 25, of the 200 block of Washington Street, is charged with first- and second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, police said.

On July 9, police responded to the area of Hope Circle at 11:43 p.m. Officers determined that a firearm had been discharged in the area, police said.

An investigation revealed Goines and a person identified as the victim knew one another and were playing basketball nearby before shots were fired, police said.
