Fred Vollmer and Wayne McWilliams, co-chairmen of the 31st annual Hagerstown Rotary Club Golf Tournament, recently presented a check for the net proceeds of more than $31,000 to David Hanlin, president of the Rotary Club.

The tournament was held April 26 at Fountain Head Country Club.

All of the proceeds are donated annually to local Washington County charities.

The golf tournament is the major fundraiser for the club, which also holds its annual bull and oyster roast, the Two for One Book and the shrimp feed/auction.

This year the four fundraisers will generate more than $70,000 for local charities.

The object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service, high ethical standards in business and professions and the advancement of international understanding, goodwill and peace through world fellowship.

The Hagerstown Rotary Club was founded Jan. 14, 1915.
