Ruffed Grouse Society plans target, sporting clays event

The Potomac Valley Chapter of the Ruffed Grouse Society, in conjunction with the Bethesda Chevy Chase Chapter of the Izaak Walton League, will host its ninth annual fun shoot and sporting clays challenge at the league’s shooting grounds on Izaak Walton Way (off West Willard Road) in Poolesville, Md., on Saturday, Aug. 4.

The entry fee for the 50-target event (25 trap and 25 sporting clays) costs $40, which includes dinner, trophies and prizes. 

The event is open to the public.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., and shooting will take place from 1 to 5 p.m.

Dinner, which costs $15 for nonshooters, will be served from 4 to 6 p.m., with awards for high gun, high ladies and high youth (16 years and younger) to follow.

There is also an optional $10 senior division class (65 and older), and a $10 side-by-side division. The event is limited to 50 shooters.

Proceeds from the event will be used to restore and protect Maryland’s grouse and woodcock habitat.
