Yard sale buffs and bargain hunters are encouraged to participate in a two-day sale Friday and Saturday beginning at 8 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church. 

Indoor or outdoor tables cost $10 each. Donations of clean, usable items are welcome.  Proceeds will benefit Captive Free, a year-long mission experience to be undertaken by Trinity’s Jacob Rockwell.

Band to play at Shafer Park

The Boonsboro Park Board will welcome the U.S. Navy Band Country Current to Shafer Park on Saturday at 7 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or a blanket.

Tractor pull this weekend

Washington County Tractor Pullers and Lucas Oil-East Coast Pullers will host the National Truck and Tractor Pull Saturday at 6 p.m. at Washington County Agricultural Education Center off Sharpsburg Pike. 

Classes include super stock/pro stock tractors, super modified two-wheel drive trucks, modified four-wheel drive trucks and multi-engine super modified tractors. 

The rain date will be Sunday at 2 p.m.

Bonanza to benefit Class of 1982 reunion

The BHS Class of 1982 will hold a bonanza Saturday at 5 p.m. at Boonsboro American Legion. 

Tickets cost $40 each (couple or single). Every 20th ticket will receive $40; the last ticket drawn will receive $500. There will also be raffles, 50/50 and auctions.

Proceeds will go toward the 30-year class reunion set for Saturday, Sept. 8, aboard the Spirit of Baltimore.

Music planned

Greenbrier Baptist Church, at the intersection of  Md. 66 and U.S. 40 north of Boonsboro, will host music from Dennis Benton Sunday at the 11 a.m. service. A free luncheon will follow the service. The community is invited.

The Boonsboro Branch of Washington County Free Library is offering the following activities: 

 • On Tuesday, July 17, the afternoon book club will meet at 3 p.m. to discuss “Firehouse,” by David Halberstam.

 • Also on July 17, local author Barbara Glickman will discuss her latest book, “Captial Splendor — Gardens and Parks of Washington D.C.,” beginning at 6 p.m. 

• Call today to sign up for language classes offered by Friends of the Library.

Russian/Armenian/Arabic, today through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; Japanese Culture, July 16 to 20, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.; and German, July 30 to Aug. 3, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Car show

First Hose Co. of Boonsboro and Pleasant Valley Ruritan will host their eighth annual car show, chicken barbecue and flea market on Saturday, Aug. 4, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Station 8, south of Rohrersville on Md. 67. 

Admission is free for spectators, and vehicles can be registered for $10.  Prizes will be awarded in 11 classes to vehicles on the show field by 11 a.m.
