Maryland Plumbing Exam Prep Course

The course prepares students to take the state plumbing journeyman’s and master exam.
Attendees should bring “National Standard Plumbing Code Illustrated 2006,” “Mathematics for Plumbers and Pipefitters 7th Edition” and “NFPA 54 National Fuel Gas Code 2006.”

Green Associate Certification Exam Prep

Friday, Aug. 3, and Saturday, Aug. 4, from 7:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

The course will prepare students to successfully pass the Green Building Certification Institute’s LEED Green Associate credential exam. The eight-hour course will prepare them to pass the exam and make them a certified green associate.
Cost: ABC members, $285; nonmembers, $335 (includes books and classroom materials). Additional fees for registration and exam, $250

Electrical Journey and Master Exam Preparation

Monday, Aug. 13, and Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 6 to 9 p.m.

The course prepares students to take the electrical exam.
The seminar covers topics such as general/theory, wiring and protection, wiring methods and materials and other related topics that will be covered on the electrical exam. The “Stallcup’s Master Electrician’s Study Guide” used for the class includes more than 2,000 questions on topics including services, switchboard, grounding and bonding, overcurrent protection, reeder-circuits and raceways.
Cost: ABC members, $110, plus book; nonmembers, $170, plus $85 book (“Stallcup’s Master Electrician’s Study Guide”).

Maryland HVAC-R Exam Prep Course

The course prepares students to take the state HVAC/R journeyman’s exam.
Attendees should bring the “2006 International Mechanical Code,” “Modern Refrigeration and Air Conditioning,” “ACCA Ductulator (Duct Slide Rule),” “Ugly’s Electrical References” and “Guide to HVAC/R Certification and Competency Tests”
Books can be purchased from ABC.

Mobile Crane Operator Refresher Training Program

Developed specifically for those responsible for operating cranes safely, Barr Institute’s Mobile Crane Operator Training Program includes information required to successfully complete the written testing requirements for certification.

Commercial Blueprint Reading
Instructor: George Burke of Callas Contractors
Aug. 28 to Oct. 18, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 6 to 9 p.m.
Registration deadline, Aug. 14
The course will cover site/civil drawing, how to calculate building materials, including concrete, lumber, wire mesh, etc., liniar footage, as well as square footage; how to use a spec book per each job; learn the basic 16 divisions of the construction project; how to reference cost codes for materials and labor; learn how to scale architectural and civil symbols; learn the submittal work and its process; go over job bar schedules to show how important it is to the completion; and invite guest speaker for the civil drawings.
