Parts of Catoctin Mountain Park closed Friday until Sunday noon

July 06, 2012

Due to increased security measures, portions of Catoctin Mountain Park were closed Friday until Sunday at about noon, according to the National Park Service.

Park Central Road was closed between the Camp Misty Mount entrance and Camp Greentop, the park service said in a news release.

However, reservations for Poplar Grove, Camp Misty Mount, Camp Greentop and Camp Round Meadow will still be honored, the release said.

Hikers may access trails to Thurmont Vista, Wolf Rock and Chimney Rock, as well as the Falls Nature Trail, from the visitor center trailheads, the release said. The Catoctin National Recreation Trail will also be open.

The routes to Blue Ridge Summit Overlook and Hog Rock are not available during this closure, but Manahan Road and trails to the west of Manahan Road are, the release said.

Visitors may use the Chestnut picnic area.
