Sharpsburg Little League will host the 2012 Maryland State Softball Tournament beginning Saturday at noon.
Five District Little Leagues from Maryland will compete for a spot to go to Bristol, Conn., for the Softball Little League World Series.
The Halfway Little League team will play at 2 p.m. Sunday, followed by an elimination game at 5 p.m.
Teams will play Monday at 5 and 8 p.m. with single games Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.
O’Connor to speak
Local author Bob O’Connor will talk about his book, “A House Divided Against Itself” Thursday, July 12, at 7 p.m. at Sharpsburg Library.
The book is an historical fiction account of the lives of Wesley and William Culp, Jack Skelly and Virginia Wade, all of Gettysburg, Pa.
O’Connor, the author of six books about the Civil War, will sign copies of his book, which will be available for purchase after his talk.

Knight suffers fall
After breaking her hip from a fall, longtime Dargan resident Whylemenia Knight is recuperating at Fahrney-Keedy Home near Boonsboro.

St. Mark’s to hold yard sale
St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, at 18313 Lappans Road, will host a summer yard sale of household items, furniture, children’s items, jewelry, and gently used treasures Saturday, July 14.
Profits from the sale will go to the 2013 Workcamp Mission trip.
Big Cork Vineyard plans farm stand
Big Cork Vineyards will open a farm stand in Rohrersville, five miles south of Boonsboro on Md. 67.
Dave Collins, farm and winery manager, has an abundant supply of local vegetables, all grown on the premises.
Biodynamic farming methods are used in all aspects of the farming, including the production of vegetables, pumpkins, raspberries and wine grapes.
The stand will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from noon to 6 p.m. and by appointment.

Navy Band to perform at Boonsboro’s Shafer Park
The U.S. Navy’s country-bluegrass band Country Current will perform at the Shafer Park bandshell in Boonsboro Saturday, July 14 at 7 p.m.
The band is the Navy’s premier country-bluegrass ensemble.
Under the direction of Senior Chief Musician Keith Arneson, the band is nationally renowned for its versatility and musicianship, performing a blend of modern country music and bluegrass.
