WILLIAMSPORT — Conococheague looked poised to wrap up the Maryland District 1 Junior tournament championship Thursday night.

Maugansville had other ideas, rallying from a 7-1 deficit with a seven-run sixth inning to take an 8-7 lead.

Conococheague tied the game in the top of the seventh on John Davies’ solo home run and the game was suspended due to darkness after eight innings with the score still tied at 8-8.

Play will resume Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Conococheague, which wins the district title with a victory. Should Maugansville complete the comeback, a decisive game will be played shortly after the end of the first game.

Conococheague took a quick 3-0 lead in the first and had extended that lead to 7-1 by the fifth inning.

Until the bottom of the sixth, Maugansville looked ready to go quietly into the night before replicating its performance on Tuesday, a 15-12 win over Valley in which Maugansville trailed 10-3.

In the bottom of the sixth, Zane Burker reached on a walk and advanced to second on an infield error that put Steven Eyler safely on first. Kenny Daniels was hit by a pitch to load the bases with no outs. Burker scored on Jay Forrest’s single before Tucker Brugh unloaded with a monstrous grand slam over the right-field fence to make it 7-6. Zane Burker brought in two more runs on a two-out single as Maugansville went up 8-7.

Davies’ homer over the left-field fence knotted the score again in the seventh and forced extra innings.
