Chambersburg man facing numerous charges after chase

Police say Sidney Lamar Spoonhour was allegedly involved in a hit-and run on Lincoln Way East

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. — A Chambersburg man has been charged with aggravated assault against a city police officer after a hit-and-run that began as a car chase damaged two police cruisers on Monday.

Sidney Lamar Spoonhour, 37, of 23 Delano Drive is charged with one count of aggravated assault on a police officer, one count of fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, two counts of accidents involving vehicle or property and one count of driving while operating privilege suspended or revoked, DUI related, according to a police report.

Police said Spoonhour was allegedly involved in a hit-and run with a Ford Escape SUV at about 4:30 p.m. on Monday in the area of Lincoln Way East near Burger King.

Spoonhour fled the scene in his red Audi sedan, police said.

His car was found in the area of East Washington Street. When police attempted to stop it, Spoonhour fled, the report said.

Later, Spoonhour allegedly rammed the police vehicle on McKinley Street extended in the area of Rockview Drive in  Chambersburg, police said.

Spoonhour continued to drive and was eventually taken into custody after his vehicle became disabled. Police said Spoonhour then attempted to run.

No injuries were reported, but two police vehicles sustained minor damage. Spoonhour’s vehicle sustained severe damage, the report said.

Spoonhour was incarcerated at Franklin County Jail for a probation violation, while charges against him were completed on Tuesday.

Police are asking the owner/operator of the Ford Escape SUV to assist them in the initial investigation, along with the owner/operator of a black sedan that sustained driver’s side damage when the red Audi struck it.
