Elwood Allen Carpenter Sr., 77, formerly of Woodpoint Avenue, died  Monday, July 2, 2012, in Hagerstown, Md.

Born Sept. 13, 1934, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Aden and Alice Harper Carpenter.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Margaret Louise Carpenter, on Nov. 3, 2000.

He was employed with New York Central Iron Works and Maryland Metals.

He was a volunteer for many years for the National Little League.

He is survived by four sons, David Carpenter Sr. and wife, Joyce, of Hagerstown, Elwood A. Carpenter Jr. and wife, Diane, of Maugansville, Charles E. Carpenter Sr. and wife, Rose, of Hagerstown, and Eddie D. Carpenter and wife, Lori, of Hagerstown; three sisters, Sarah Mason, Julia Brown and Betty Towns all of Hagerstown; three brothers, Stanley Carpenter of Hagerstown, Alvin Carpenter of Marlowe, W.Va., and William Carpenter of Orange Park, Fla.; seven grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by a son, Allen Eugene Carpenter; and two sisters, Viola Carpenter and Evelyn Stone.

Services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Ed Hampton will officiate. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Park in Williamsport, Md.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
