Naomi Freda Sponaugle, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2012, at the Ravenwood Lutheran Village, Hagerstown.

Born July 22, 1926, in Harrisburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William Lester and Lillie Jane (Marlow) Sowers. She was the wife of the late Herbert Wesley Sponaugle, who died in 1954.

Naomi was a homemaker who enjoyed bird watching and gardening.

She is survived by a son, Gregory L. Sponaugle; three daughters, Gail E. Smith, Judy G. Kridler and Karen K Brown, all of Hagerstown; three grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

In addition to her parents and husband, Naomi was preceded in death by one son, Wayne L. Sponaugle; two brothers, Virgil Sowers and Tommy Sowers; and four sisters, Dorothy Sowers, Evelyn Rickard, Letitia M. Stickles and Julia “Judy” Waters.


The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at the Gerald N. Minnich Funeral Home, 305 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Blaine Feightner will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, July 6, at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ravenwood Lutheran Village Benevolent Fund, 1183 Luther Drive, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
