Pasture walk planned July 19 at Frederick County farm

July 04, 2012

FREDERICK, Md. — A pasture walk will be held in Frederick County Thursday, July 19, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Ron and Kathy Holter will host the event.

The 110-cow Jersey herd is milked seasonally with the dry period running from late December until early March.

The 200-acre farm is certified organic.

The purpose of the walk is to allow livestock producers a chance to learn more about the use of rotational grazing as a way to increase agricultural profitability and improve a farm family’s way of life.

Holterholm Farms is at 5827 Holter Road.  From Jefferson, Md., take Holter Road two miles to the farm on the right.

From Middletown, Md., go south on Md. 17 and take an immediate left onto Franklin Street (which becomes Holter Road). Then go three miles to the farm on the left. Watch for “Pasture Walk” signs.

It is a free event, and no registration is required.

Request for accommodations related to disabilities should be made by calling 301-600-3576 by Tuesday, July 17.
