Take care of your pets

July 03, 2012|Susie Hoffman | Around Funkstown

Good morning and happy Fourth of July, a day early.

Please remember to keep plenty of fresh water available for your furry friends during these hot and humid “dog days” of summer.

Also make sure to give them access to a shady, covered area out of the direct blaring heat when they are outside.

This should go without saying, but please leave your pets at home while running errands. Even a few minutes in a closed car in this heat can be cruel, even deadly, to pets.

Fireworks and baseball

There is so much to get into on Wednesday for the Fourth of July. There will be fireworks at Hagerstown Fairgrounds at dusk. The Hagerstown Suns are in town for an early-evening game.

Please be cautious when driving, and leave the fireworks to the experts.

Trip to Yankee Stadium

Most of us have made it to a game or two in Baltimore to watch the Orioles. A trip to New York, however, is a different story.

St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Funkstown is planning a bus trip to see the Orioles play the Yankees at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday, Aug. 1.

The cost of the trip is $90 per person, which includes the cost of the game ticket, the bus ride, the driver’s gratuity and bingo prizes. Game time is 1:05 p.m.

To reserve a ticket, call Charlotte Miller at 301-733-2678.

Happy Fourth

Happy Fourth of July, everyone. While you are enjoying the fireworks and picnics, make sure to appreciate the freedoms and independence that our forefathers so tenaciously fought to preserve.
