WAYNESBORO, Pa. — Songs of praise echoed through Otterbein Church’s ministry center Sunday evening as WaynesboroFest closed the third of its 10 days.

The choir for Festival of Praise was comprised of 75 people representing 15 churches.

“It’s not a performance tonight. It’s an opportunity to worship together as a community,” said Dave Besecker, the director from Otterbein Church.

WaynesboroFest is a triennial festival focused on the community’s history and culture. It kicked off Friday with the “Fifteen Days Under the Confederate Flag” dramalogue and a wine tasting at Waynesboro Country Club.

Selections in the Festival of Praise included “10,000 Reasons,” “Amazing Grace” and “Jesus, Son of God.”

Waynesboro resident Lee Schultz said he was especially glad to hear “Amazing Grace.” He and his wife, Mary, attend Otterbein Church and decided to be in the audience of the evening’s event.

“I think it’s good,” he said.

Schultz said he will not be able to attend some of the other WaynesboroFest events because of his work schedule.

Gloria Krocker-Corey of Tomstown, Pa., hopes to catch an encore performance of “Fifteen Days Under the Confederate Flag.” She and her friend, Judy Bivens of Mercersburg, Pa., said they enjoyed the concert, with Krocker-Corey taking a special liking to the violin aspects.

Joe Nethkin, 16, of Smithsburg, attended with his parents. Although he was not completely sold on the Christian themes, he said he enjoyed the music.

“I like it,” he said. “It’s really nice.”

Kevin and Jeanette Biesecker, of Waynesboro, regularly attend Otterbein Church. They sang with the choir Sunday evening.

“We’re not in the choir normally. ... It was an opportunity to get together with many people from other churches,” Jeanette Biesecker said.

Kevin Biesecker described the event as “awesome worship” that had a “closeness with Christ.”
