Breeden crowned Miss West Virginia Outstanding Teen

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Morgan Breeden was crowned Miss West Virginia Outstanding Teen on Friday night at the Morgantown Event Center at Waterfront Place.

Breeden, who was Miss Shenandoah Outstanding Teen, played the piano during the talent portion of the event. Her platform was “Bullies Beware: I Have a Lion in My Heart! Building You Up So a Bully Can’t Tear You Down.”

Breeden was second runner-up in the pageant in 2011 as Miss Jefferson County Outstanding Teen.

Miss North Eastern Outstanding Teen Julianne Brown was named third runner-up Friday night, and Miss Berkeley County Outstanding Teen Emily Matlock was fourth runner-up.

In the Miss West Virginia event, Miss Morgantown Makayla Lewis, of Bunker Hill, W.Va., was first runner-up; Miss Mountaineer Maggie Power, originally from Martinsburg, was second runner-up; Miss North Eastern Olivia Staubs was third runner-up; and Miss Berkeley County Taylor Martin was fourth runner-up.

Staubs won the preliminary swimsuit competition on Tuesday, and Lewis and Martin shared the title in the evening wear competition Tuesday. Power was a co-winner in the talent preliminary on Wednesday.

Miss Harrison County Kaitlin Gates was named Miss West Virginia. She replaces Spenser Wempe of Martinsburg, W.Va., who won last year’s pageant.
