Minnich, Ruane named Shepherd’s athletes of the year

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. — Senior Nathan Minnich (baseball) and junior Nicole Ruane (lacrosse) were named Shepherd University’s male and female athletes of the year.

Minnich, from Waynesboro, Pa., earned the Tino Martinez Award as the most outstanding baseball player in NCAA Division II. He led NCAA II in four categories and ranked second in four more, while leading the Rams to a 30-22 record.

Ruane led the Rams to a record-setting 11-4 mark this season. She led the Rams in points (78), goals (62), draw controls (60) and ground balls (44).


Junior football tryouts, signups

The Washington County Junior Football League will hold tryouts and signups at Williamsport High School for grades 5-8 on July 10 and 11 from 6 to 8 p.m. each day.

Those who already have signed up still must try out.
