Brigitte Elaine Heller, 51, of Boonsboro, Md., passed away on Thursday, June 28, 2012, at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Baltimore, Md., from injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
She was born Aug. 13, 1960, in Hagerstown, Md.
She was a 1978 graduate of South Hagerstown High School.
She was employed as the Washington County Division of Emergency Services EMS coordinator for six years. Prior to that, she was employed as the EMS management specialist for the Washington County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association from the early 1990s until moving to the Division of Emergency Services. She was also the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services Systems Region II Advisory Council president. She was a dedicated volunteer for more than 30 years in with several departments in Washington County, including charter member and past chief of Boonsboro EMS, Boonsboro Fire Department and Volunteer Fire Co. of Halfway. Education was very important to Brigitte. She was a Maryland Fire Rescue Institute instructor as well as the coordinator for the advanced life support training academy for Washington County.
Brigitte was a member of Manor Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include: mother, Harriett "Penny" Mongan of Hagerstown; daughter, Brittany L. Heller of Boonsboro, Md.; son, Terry L. Doyle of Boonsboro; granddaughter, Lillian P. Doyle of Boonsboro, who was the pride and joy of her life; sister, Crystal L. Krocker of Hagerstown; brother, Rocky L. Berger of Hagerstown; brother, Manny Berger of Leitersburg, Md.; stepbrother, Jay Mongan of Greencastle, Pa.; stepbrother, John Mongan of Hagerstown; stepbrother, Bobby Mongan of Hagerstown; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was predeceased by her father, Robert E. Berger, and her stepfather, Robert T. Mongan.
A celebration of life will be held at the Hagerstown Community College Athletic, Recreation and Community Center on Tuesday, July 3, at 2 p.m., with Chaplain Bob Fraley officiating.
There will be no viewing.
Brigitte was special to many people. She will forever be remembered in the hearts and minds of her family, extended family, and fire and EMS family as a caring, kind, selfless, strong woman.
