Mrs. Anna Louise (Schroyer) Harris, 82, a resident of Providence Place Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly of 10952 Buchanan Trail East, Waynesboro, Pa., passed away at 10:40 p.m. Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 6, 1930, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Cyril H. and Anna (DeLawter) Schroyer. She spent most of her life in the Waynesboro area.

Mrs. Harris was a graduate of Washington Township High School with the Class of 1947. She then received her Bachelor of Arts Degree in music from Wilson College, Chambersburg, her Bachelor of Science Degree in education from Tyson University and her master's degree in education from Western Maryland University.

She and her husband, the late Mr. George B. Harris, were married Oct. 31, 1959, in Evangelical Lutheran Church, Waynesboro. Mrs. Harris later enjoyed many wonderful years with her companion, the late J. Martin Benchoff.

Mrs. Harris was employed as a teacher in Westminster, Md., where she taught on educational television with the Ford Foundation and U.S Government projects in Hagerstown, Md. She conducted ITV, of Instructional Television Workshops, for the state of Maryland in Baltimore, where she was one of the first ITV instructors. She helped pioneer ITV with Washington County, Md., schools under the Ford Foundation. She spent one year on the Palau Island of Koror in the Pacific, teaching American children in a one-room school. Prior to her retirement in 1980, she was supervisor of elementary education for the Washington County Public Schools, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir and was active with the music department for many years. She was a member of Mount Vernon Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and Waynesboro College Club, all of Waynesboro; Delta Gamma Society, where she served as state scholarship chairwoman and past president; Beta Sigma Phi Sorority; Mary Carroll Caton Daughters of the American Revolution; and the Maryland Retired Teacher's Association.

Mrs. Harris also served on the board of directors for Hagerstown Women's Club, Waynesboro Day Care Center and Waynesboro YMCA.

She is survived by several cousins.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at The Evangelical Lutheran Church, 43 S. Church St., Waynesboro, with Pastor Drahus Oslik officiating. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Saturday morning in the parlor of the church.
