James Harold Benedict, 91, of Boonsboro, Md., and formerly of Williamsport, Md., passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md.
Born Dec. 1, 1920, in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late James Keller and Margaret Miller Benedict.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Violetta Viola Wiley Benedict, in 1993.
He was a 1939 graduate of Hagerstown High School.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II.
He was employed by Mack Trucks Inc. of Hagerstown for 25 years, until retiring in 1986.
He was a member of Rehoboth United Methodist Church, Williamsport, for more than 60 years.
He was a charter member of Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84, Williamsport.
Survivors include daughter, Kathy D. Rickard and husband, Larry, of Martinsburg, W.Va.; daughter, Lora J. Clark and husband, Doug, of Williamsport; daughter, Tammy L. Benedict of Williamsport; son, James E. Benedict and wife, Dixie, of Williamsport; sister, Janet McClelland of Silver Spring, Md.; granddaughters, Misty Mills, Joi Hilton and Traci Carden; grandsons, Brian Rickard, Stephen Rickard and James Clark; great-granddaughters, Kristen Elyard and Lily Ann Hilton; and great- grandsons, Jason Mills, James Carden and Dell Carden.
Funeral services will be held at Osborne Funeral Home, 425 S. Conococheague St., Williamsport, on Saturday, June 30, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. James E. Swecker officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Williamsport.
