Boy Scouts to hold car wash Saturday

Downsville Boy Scout Troop 58 will hold a car wash Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sears Automotive Center at Valley Mall. Cost is by donation.

Library book sale needs volunteers

The Williamsport Memorial Library book sale will be held in the basement of the library on Aug. 24, 25 and 26, in conjunction with Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Days.

The library will be accepting donated books until the end of July.

A schedule for volunteers will begin Aug. 1. Anyone interested in supporting the sale by volunteering two hours, contact the library.

Fourth of July Run for Freedom

Registration for the Fourth of July Run for Freedom 5-K race begins at 7:30 a.m. in Byron Memorial Park, Pavilion three.

The race begins at 8:30 a.m. and runs through the streets of Williamsport.

The registration fee costs $20 before June 29; $25 after June 29.

Participants are asked to bring a canned food item for the food bank.

Fourth of July celebration in the park

There will be something for everyone in Byron Memorial Park Wednesday, July 4, as Williamsport holds its annual Independence Day celebration.

The Rhythm Kings will entertain in the afternoon. Community organizations will provide food for purchase.

The Williamsport pool will be open from noon to 6 p.m.

In the evening, the Williamsport Community Band will perform a patriotic concert and there will be a fireworks display at dusk.

The community is invited.

Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Days, Aug. 23 to 26, from Byron Memorial Park to Cushwa Basin — features concert, street dance, arts and crafts festival including street vendors, cruise-in and antique tractor show.
