HANCOCK — Gabe Stotler had three hits, including a three-run home run, and finished with four RBIs on Tuesday to lead Hancock to an 8-3 victory over Conococheague in a Maryland District 1 9-10 Tournament losers’ bracket game.

Justice Allen and Hopper Fink had two hits each for Hancock. Josh Golden struck out six.

Hancock will travel to West End on Wednesday night at 6 for another losers’ bracket game.

Justin Taylor doubled in the first inning for Conococheague.

District 1 10-11 Tournament

West End 18, Clear Spring 1

Chase McCoy and Joseph Ringus had three hits each to lead West End past Clear Spring in five innings in a first-round game.

Butchie Sisler, Xavier Dominguez, Mike Collazo and Bransyn Dillinger had two hits each, Will Grove had six strikeouts and Grove and Ringus combined on a three-hitter for West End, which will play Valley at Halfway in the winners’ bracket final Wednesday night at 6.

Funkstown 11, Frederick 3

FREDERICK, Md. — Ryan Butts drove in three runs and Jake Bachtell drove in two as Funkstown defeated Frederick in a Western Maryland District game.

Phillip Pietro had three hits and Brock Heiston added two hits for Funkstown (8-3, 3-1). Aaron Jones and Aaron Stoner combined on a five-hitter.

Travis Phelps had two hits for Frederick.

Staley finishes 17th

BALTIMORE — North Hagerstown junior Aaron Staley competed in the 88th Maryland State Golf Association Junior Amateur, played on the East Course at Baltimore Country Club.

Staley carded rounds of 75 and 82 for a 36-hole 157 and a tie for 20th place out of 30 players that made the cut for the second round out of 120 players.

Red Sox roster addition

Clear Spring’s Dylan Appel will join Blazers teammates Logan Appel and Dylan Stouffer and North Hagerstown’s Zane Schreiber on the prestigious Mid-Atlantic Red Sox team for 2012.

Also on the team are Hunter Szlafarski of Greencastle and Nick Graham of Chambersburg.

The Red Sox are slated to play a doubleheader on Saturday against the New Jersey Marlins at Mount St. Mary’s, the first game beginning at noon.

Clear Spring’s Mark Shives serves as the summer head coach.
