Mr. Charles Thomas Spalding Sr., 81, of 150 E. Franklin St., Greencastle, Pa., died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, June 24, 2012, at his home following a lengthy illness.

Born March 6, 1931, in Thurmont, Md., he was the son of the late Horace Francis and Helen (Fogle) Spalding.

He spent his early life in Thurmont before moving to Hagerstown and later Greencastle, where he lived for 48 years.

Mr. Spalding attended Hagerstown schools.

He and his wife, Mary Janet (Kendle) Spalding, were married Dec. 9, 1949, in Hagerstown, Md.

Mr. Spalding was employed by M.P. Moller for 40 years as a pipe maker before retiring in 1992. In retirement, he worked part time for First National Bank of Greencastle as a courier.

He was a member of Washington Square Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sandra J. Spalding, Greencastle, and Rhonda LeAnn Christmas, Chambersburg; a son, Charles T. Spalding Jr., Greencastle; six grandchildren; his sister, Helen Delores West, Halfway, Md.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Spalding was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters.

The service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In his memory, memorial contributions may be made to Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg PA 17201.

Arrangements are being handled by Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle.
