3. Music and words

4. 'Smithsburg and the Arts'

"Smithsburg and the Arts" will open with a reception  from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Miller House, 135 W. Washington St., downtown Hagers-town. Sculptures by Emily Clayton Bishop, pen and ink and charcoals by Luther B. Newcomer, water colors by Elizabeth Bell, poetry by Edgar Irving Brenner, pottery by Jacob Frederick Kimler and his son Frederick Kimler will be on display. Continues through the end of August. $5; $3 seniors and students; free for children 14 and younger. Hours are 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Go to www.washcomdhistoricalsociety.org.


5. History that comes alive

Living history volunteers will portray Battery B, 4th U.S. Artillery and demonstrate loading and firing of the cannons at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Saturday, June 30, at Antietam National Battlefield, Sharpsburg Pike, Sharpsburg. Go to www.nps.gov/anti.
