Hagerstown Lions Club foundation awards Massey Roe scholarships

On June 5, the Hagerstown Lions Club-affiliated Massey H. Roe Youth Foundation presented seven $1,000 college scholarship awards to high school and college students in Washington County.

The scholarship recipients are Sally Ann Johnston, Mark Sokol, Madison Vida, Autumn Tracy, Kelsey Jarvis, Kevin Sokol and Matthew Culver.

The foundation received 13 applications, with seven students selected by the foundation’s evaluation committee on the basis of a unified-scoring system.

To date, the Hagerstown Lions Club Massey H. Roe Youth Foundation has awarded $157,400 in scholarships. 

Graduating seniors from North Hagerstown High School, South Hagerstown High School, Washington County Technical High School, St. Maria Goretti High School, Barbara Ingram School for the Arts and home-schooled students in the same school districts, as well as past recipients, are eligible. 

Students and family members were guests of the club for the presentation program.

Of the seven recipients, two are class of 2012 high school graduates and five are college students who are prior recipients of the scholarship.
