Funkstown Post 211 wins tournament

BOYERTOWN, Pa. — Funkstown Post 211 defeated Frederick 5-2 in the championship game to win the Mid-Atlantic Classic Wooden Bat Tournament on Sunday.

Funkstown finished 3-1 for the tournament. In pool play, Funkstown defeated Norchester 12-2 and Olney 5-3 but lost 3-1 to Hershey.

Aaron Jones had two hits and two RBIs for Funkstown in the championship game, while Philip Pietro had two RBIs and winning pitcher Scott Bennett combined with Zach Lucas and Tyler Byers for a two-hitter.

Against Norchester, Jake Bachtell and Lucas each had two hits, Charles Cvijanovich and Bachtell each had three RBIs and Aaron Stoner pitched a four-hitter.

Against Olney, Cvijanovich had three hits and Lucas added two hits, while Byers had two hits against Hershey.

Cvijanovich, who batted .461, was named tournament MVP.

Hagerstown Speedway

Rusty Sites, of Chambersburg, Pa., scored his second career victory in the Buchanan Auto Stores Late Model Championship Series event Saturday night at Hagerstown Speedway during Armed Forces Appreciation Night.

After a restart on the opening lap, the rest of the race ran under green. Sites took the checkered flag by 2.236 seconds over Jerry Bard.

Kevin Boyer, of Frederick, Md., came from seventh to take over the lead just past the halfway marker and went on to post his second career Ernie D’s pure stock win by 2.081 seconds over Tony Catlett.

Kenny Thomas, of Greencastle, Pa., was the D&D Auto Recycling hobby stock winner.
