Candidates seeking to run in the Nov. 6 general election in Maryland outside of the major political parties have until June 29 to file a declaration of intent.
The Maryland State Board of Elections said candidates need a declaration of intent if they are seeking the nomination of a nonprincipal political party.
That applies to the Green and Libertarian parties, according to the State Board of Elections’ website.
The declaration of intent also is needed for candidates who are:
• Seeking the nomination of a nonrecognized political party by petition.
• Unaffiliated with a political party and intending to become a candidate by petition.
The deadline to file usually is July 1 at 5 p.m., but that’s a Sunday this year, so the deadline is June 29.
