Korean War veterans to have display at mall

Antietam Chapter 312 of the Korean War Veterans will have a display at Valley Mall Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to raising money to support its scholarships for high school seniors and providing educational presentations to area schools, the chapter’s goal is to educate the public about the Korean War, sometimes referred to as “The Forgotten War.” It was fought between June 1950 and July 1953, with war casualties of 35,515 killed, 102,000 wounded and more than 8,000 missing.

The group also aids needy members and their wives and children, and the widows and children of those who were members at the time of their death. They also work with other Washington County veterans organizations.

They are raising funds to build a monument in Hagerstown to honor the men and women who served during the conflict.

Fall soccer sign-ups

Hagerstown Area Youth Soccer League of the American Youth Soccer Organization  Region 627 will hold registration for the fall season Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Food Court area at Valley Mall.

HAYSL is a region of AYSO, an all-volunteer organization that has approximately 600,000 children playing soccer in the U.S. and abroad.
