Mail Call - June 20

June 20, 2012

“The county has its priorities all mixed up, giving Hagerstown back $400,000 a year for something that they contributed to in regard to the stadium project, and also cutting the nursing program from the schools, the nurse program. What they need to do is forget about the stadium, take that $400,000 per year that the county was going to give back to Hagerstown, and fund the nurse program within the schools with that $400,000. The stadium is a luxury.”

— Washington County

“What’s wrong with the politicians around here? I’ve been in other countries; it isn’t like this. Around here, in Washington County and in the city of Hagerstown, one of the most complex systems of government I’ve ever seen. Throw them out.”

— Hagerstown

“I just think that if this area has money to build a new stadium, then this area has money to help people who are without jobs, or need some type of food assistance, or some type of housing assistance. I just think it’s ridiculous that they want to spend millions of dollars to build a stadium, when we have a perfectly good one sitting out there that may just need some revamping. I think that the council members and the county ... I think they really need to sit down and think about what’s going on in this town, before it’s too late.”

— Hagerstown

“Is there a connection among Carroll County’s membership in the International Council for the Local Environmental Initiatives, Maryland’s benefit corporation laws, the U.N. Agenda 21, and the war on septic systems in Western Maryland? There is a story here that needs to be covered by the local media.”

— Hagerstown

“I think everybody just needs to take a deep breath and calm down about the school nurses. The issue is not that they’re getting rid of nurses. They might be getting rid of the ones that are in there now, but legally, they have to have nurses in the schools. The Washington County Commissioners have just said that they are not including it in their budget — and they don’t have to. The BOE has to provide nursing. So maybe they have to include it in their budget. And maybe they have to cut some ... that they don’t need. It doesn’t have to come from the Washington County budget. ... They’ll work it out.”

— Hagerstown

“One has to wonder when President Obama does the work of the people and runs the government, because every time you turn around, he’s somewhere doing a fundraiser to get re-elected. If he spent as much time doing the job that he was elected to do, maybe this country wouldn’t be in such a mess.”

— Hagerstown

“I am 80-plus. I have made a promise not to vote for re-election of any politician whose last name begins with ‘O.’ Barack Obama and Martin O’Malley start my list.”

— Hagerstown
