Funkstown tops Woodsboro, 13-4

FUNKSTOWN — Zach Lucas had three hits and three RBIs for Funkstown in its 13-4 Western Maryland District victory over Woodsboro on Monday.

Jake Bachtell also had three hits for Funkstown (3-1, 1-0), while Charles Cvijanovich and Phillip Pietro each had two hits, Aaron Stone had two RBIs and Airin Martin was the winning pitcher.

Ryan, Price break Tri-State records

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Chambersburg’s Marshay Ryan broke her own all-time Tri-State area records in the girls long and triple jumps over the weekend at New Balance Nationals.

Ryan finished second in the championships of both events with marks of 19 feet, 5 1/2 inches in the long jump and 42 feet, 2 3/4 inches in the triple jump. Her previous Tri-State records, set earlier this spring, were 19-5 1/4 in the long jump and 40-5 in the triple.

Also, Jefferson’s Dante Price set a Tri-State record in the boys 200-meter dash. His time of 21.25 seconds in the preliminary heats topped the previous mark of 21.39, set by Jefferson’s James Jett in 1989. Price finished fifth in the championship final in 21.32.

Price and Ryan will both be seniors next school year.

Bash Dash Mile set for Saturday in Hancock

The third annual Bash Dash Mile, a downhill footrace in Hancock, is scheduled for Saturday, beginning at Hancock Middle-Senior High School and finishing at at Joseph Hancock Park.

The footrace, which is open to runners and walkers of all ages and abilities, will begin at 10 a.m. Race-day registration costs $5 and begins at 9 a.m. at the school.
