Funkstown gets past Winchester

WINCHESTER, Va. — Hunter Williams had two hits and Tyler Byers drove in a pair of runs as Funkstown Post 211 beat Winchester 7-4 on Sunday.

Funkstown (2-1) opens play in the Western Maryland District today at 6 p.m. against Woodsboro at Funkstown Community Park.

BRIEF

Youth football combine

The JHYAA Junior Hubs are holding a free youth football combine on June 25 at North Hagerstown’s Mike Callas Stadium from 6 to 8 p.m. This is open to kids ages 6-14 in the North school district.

Registration will also be held that day from 5 to 8 for the 2012 Junior Hubs Travel Football and Cheerleading organization. This is open to boys and girls entering grades 1 to 8 and all registrants must have a birth certificate. Fee for football is $75, with additional siblings $60 each. Gilbert scores second ace

Wayne Gilbert notched a hole-in-one on Sunday at the 145-yard 17th hole at Black Rock Golf Course, using a 7-iron.

For Gilbert, who has been playing golf for 35 years, it was his second career ace.

Gilbert played the round with Bob Close and Adam Cosden.
