Mail Call - June 19

June 18, 2012

“I’m calling to thank the Wilson Ruritan for the wonderful picnic they provided for the Special Olympics participants. It was very nice to see an organization reach out and do something kind for our athletes. Thanks again for a very enjoyable evening.”
— Williamsport

“I am not referring to most of our good teachers here in Washington County when I say this, but remember ‘Goofus and Gallant’? The former was a jerk, who made a mess of everything, while the latter always showed him up, by improving his little corner of the world. Unfortunately, Goofus still exists in the BOE educational system here in Washington County. But then if you stop and think about it — and I think the BOE, if they don’t understand this comment, should go back into their education from years ago, and look ‘Goofus and Gallant’ up.”
— Hagerstown

“It’s very frustrating when you’re sitting at City Park, enjoying the ducks and the pond, and then all of a sudden somebody puts their little remote control boat in the water and scares the ducks away. It’s very frustrating, because you’re in their home, you’re in their territory, and you’re just abusing the pond, the privilege to have the pond here.”
— Hagerstown

“I am calling on behalf of the neighbors on Resh Road. We are sick of the lady in our neighborhood who lets her dogs out every day to go to the bathroom in other people’s yards, and also the people on Broadfording Road who takes their dogs on walks a couple times a day to go to the bathroom in the graveyard on Broadfording Church Road. Start cleaning up after your dogs, or keep them in your yard. We all have dogs in this neighborhood, but are sick of the feces when you walk in your own yard, or the graveyard. We keep our animals in our yards, and we expect the same from you.”
— Hagerstown

“I see President Obama is really pushing his jobs bill again, and I really think that he’s concerned about jobs; his own.”
— Hagerstown

“To the person from Sharpsburg that was printed on June 8: I just want you to know that some families in this county have both income earners that are state employees. Many of us went with no pay raises for most of our career, over the last 12 to 15 years. Some of us had pay cuts, furloughs, layoffs, for at least three of those years. Whenever both of your income earners are on ... take that, that’s a significant hit to our income, so that the welfare people can get their money and the inmates can get their raises.”
— Washington County

“I would like to personally thank all the dentists in the area who came out on June 9 to help fix local residents’ teeth, including mine. It was greatly appreciated, and I am so grateful to you all for these services. I hope you do this again in the Hagerstown/Washington County area. Thank you so very much. I am forever grateful and indebted to you, especially Dr. Chuck and Dr. Burley, and Dr. Burley’s son. This is a great service that you did.”
— Washington County

“Hagerstown caller, you wrongly accuse me of calling leftists evil. I’ve never said any such thing, nor do I believe it. Mistaken, yes, evil, no. I think we both want what’s best for our country, but profoundly disagree on what policies will achieve this. But you claim I want to kill every last animal, don’t care about children, the elderly, the future of our country, etc., calling me evil in all but name. So not only are you under the delusion that you can read minds and know exactly what I believe, but you’re the one who evidently thinks anyone who politically disagrees with you is evil.”
— Frederick, Md.
