Ronald Snider, 80

Mr. Ronald “Snipe” Snider, 80, of 146 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa., died at 9:35 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012, at Quincy Village, Quincy, Pa. 

Born May 9, 1932, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Thorton “Snooks” Snider and Louse (McDowell) Snider. 

He graduated from Waynesboro High School with the class of 1950. He later graduated from Shippensburg College with a master’s degree in education.

Mr. Snider served with the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. 

He and his wife of more than 51 years, Mary Lou (Cuthriell) Snider, were married in 1960 in Thousand Oaks, Calif. 

Mr. Snider was a sixth-grade teacher in California for six years, and in Hagerstown, Md., for 25 years. 

He was a member of Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, Waynesboro. He also was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Eagles Club Inc., Washington County Retired Teachers Association and National AARP. 

Mr. Snider enjoyed all sports, especially jogging and weightlifting. He also enjoyed gardening, dancing and watching TV.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Mark Snider and his wife, Deborah, of University Park, Md., and Laura Cole and her husband, Frank, of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Taylor Cole of Waynesboro, Margerie Snider of University Park and Alison Snider of University Park; one sister, Judi Eyer of Waynesboro; one brother, Robert Snider of Los Osos, Calif.; and nieces and nephews. 

Services will be private at the convenience of the family. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Antietam Humane Society, 8513 Lyons Road, Waynesboro, PA 17268. 

Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, is handling the arrangements.
