Michael Allen Vaughan, 20, of Martinsburg, W.Va., passed away Saturday, June 16, 2012, at City Hospital in Martinsburg.

Born March 22, 1992, in Martinsburg, Michael was the son of Leonard and Bette Ann (Pickett) Vaughan, and the grandson of the late Allen and Jewel Vaughan of Williamsport, Md., and the late Ralph and Virginia Pickett of Mount Airy, Md.

Although Michael faced many obstacles in life as a child with special needs and medical problems, he was always nurtured, supported and loved by his church family at Greensburg and Mount Wesley United Methodist Churches.

Michael loved all kinds of music, and especially enjoyed being with his family and extended family. His smile reached the hearts of many. He enjoyed listening to the sounds and people around him, and he was a blessing to all who knew him. Michael inspired us to look for the good in life even when met with challenges.

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his sister, Allison Vaughan Meley and husband, Brian, of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; his brother, Scott and wife, Courtney, of Harpers Ferry; his nephew, Evan Frank Meley of Harpers Ferry; aunt, Judy Butler and husband, Jim, of Inwood, W.Va.; aunt, Laura Beauchamp of Falling Waters, W.Va.; aunt, Paula Wyatt and husband, Kershner, of Williamsport; aunt, Wendy Carr and husband, Victor, of Charles Town, W.Va.; uncle, Wesley and companion, Anne Zeboor, of Maumee, Ohio; cousins; many friends and extended family; and his loyal dog, Suzy.

Michael’s family would like to extend appreciation to all who touched and all who were touched by Michael over the years. All of his nurses, doctors, teachers and friends will always be close to our hearts.

A Remembrance of Life and visitation will be Thursday, June 21, 2012, from 6 to 7 p.m. with a Celebration of Life following from 7 to 8 p.m. at Rosedale Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Greensburg United Methodist Church, 2171 Greensburg Road, Martinsburg, WV 25404-0364 or National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 E. 33rd St., New York, NY 10016.
