Duncan breaks county record at national meet

PREP TRACK & FIELD

GREENSBORO, N.C. — Boonsboro’s Abby Duncan broke her own Washington County record in the girls 100-meter dash Friday at New Balance Nationals.

Duncan placed second in her preliminary heat in the Emerging Elite division in 12.09 seconds, breaking the mark of 12.13 she ran last month to win the Maryland Class 1A state title. She finished eighth in the final in 12.39.

In other Emerging Elite action, Williamsport’s Evan Hardy placed ninth in the boys 2-mile run in 9:28.06, North Hagerstown’s Raven Jackson finished ninth in the girls triple jump at 36 feet, 10 1/2 inches, and in the girls 4x200 relay, North Hagerstown finished 19th (1:50.02) and Boonsboro was 22nd (1:51.34).

In the boys shot put championship, Boonsboro’s J.R. Lowery fouled on all three of his attempts.
