Father-son banquet

A father-son banquet will be held Saturday at 6 p.m. at Maugansville Bible Brethren Church. The church is at 17904 Binkley Ave. in Maugansville.

Lt. Clebe McClary will be the guest speaker. McClary is a Vietnam veteran who was critically wounded in 1968 and overcame his injuries.  

Tickets cost $8 for adults and $5 for those ages 12 and younger. For tickets, call 301-791-8101.



Chicken barbecue

Maugansville Goodwill Volunteer Fire Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday from 11 a.m. until sold out. 

Dinner includes a half chicken, baked beans, applesauce and a roll for $6, or a half chicken for $4.50.

Baked goods will be available, as well. There will be free delivery to a limited area.

Church festival

The Salem Reformed Church Festival will be Wednesday, June 20, beginning at 5 p.m. in the Family Life Center. Homemade chicken corn, chicken noodle and bean soups, country ham sandwiches, chicken salad sandwiches, steamers and hot dogs, salads, cakes and pies will be for sale.

The church is on Salem Church Road, off Cearfoss Pike in Hagerstown.



Golf tournament

Maugansville Ruritan Club will host its ninth annual “Kevin’s Fund” golf tournament Friday, June 22, at Black Rock Golf Course. 

The event is a four-golfer scramble and begins with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.

Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

There will be first- and second-place winners in three flights, and hole-in-one, longest drive, and closest-to-the-pin contests, and door prizes.

The registration fee costs $85 per golfer, or $320 per foursome.

The fee includes greens fees, cart, on course beverages, pre-tournament breakfast snacks, and dinner afterward provided by Celebrations Catering. 

The Kevin Lumm Memorial Fund was started in 2004 and has since donated more than $70,000 to assist local children with medical and special needs in Washington County, and to the Batten Disease Support and Research Association. 

The fund is administered by the Maugansville Ruritan Club.  The club is looking for golfers, individual and business hole sponsors ($100), and donations for door prizes.

Yard sale planned

The Hagerstown Business & Professional Women’s Club will hold a yard sale Saturday, June 23, from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 17815 Garden View Road in Maugansville. 

Housewares, books, jewelry, clothes and miscellaneous items will be sold. Proceeds will benefit the Hagerstown BPW Scholarship program and community projects.

Diabetes Support Group to meet

The Diabetes Support Group at Walnut Towers will meet Wednesday, June 20, at 1:30 p.m. in the eighth floor community room. 

The program is titled “Eating Healthy on a Budget” presented by Lisa Moran, community health advocate with Priority Partners. 

The group is open to individuals who live at Walnut Towers and anyone in the community. The group provides a forum for educating individuals with diabetes to help manage their disease and to gain support from others.
