June 14, 2012

Hagerstown police have charged a city man with using a shovel to assault another man Wednesday evening near the former R.D. McKee building at 339 W. Antietam St.

Timothy Wayne Oldham, 50, was charged with one count each of first-degree assault, second-degree assault and reckless endangerment, according to a Hagerstown Police Department news release.

Police said a 55-year-old man walked into the police station at about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and told officers that another man had just struck him on the head several times with a shovel.

The victim, whose name was not released, told police that the incident occurred at the rear of the former R.D. McKee building as the two men argued over a female.

The victim was taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown to be treated for his injuries.

Police said Oldham was found a short time later and taken into custody.
