Mail Call - June 12

June 11, 2012

“I’m calling in regard to the letter to the editor in June 6, about Thomas Jefferson, advocating religion. But he forgot to mention that Thomas Jefferson was also a slave owner, who took liberties with the female slaves in his quarters, and fathered kids out of wedlock. That’s the man that also is being written up as being so religious.”
— Hagerstown

“The American voter has turned into a gutless wimp. All the American voter wants anymore is a handout from government. If you ever run a household, you know that you can’t continuously spend into the red. You can’t continue to borrow money and not pay it back. The government that we have now is doing nothing but that. We have to stop it. If you do not stop this kind of spending, there will be no future — and apparently that’s what Americans are thinking. They’re only worried about me, me, me; nothing about their children or grandchildren.”
— Washington County

“The reason we don’t want President Obama in the White House is because we don’t want to end up like Greece and France.”
— Hagerstown

“You know, I’ve been listening to this Fox TV station, and I watch the other stations, too, and most of their women are behind a desk or behind some kind of a shield, don’t show their bodies, but I noticed Fox has got their women out front, showing their legs or body parts, instead of being behind a desk or a screen being interviewed. So I think it’s done intentionally.”
— Hagerstown

“I would like to know who finances Volunteer Washington County. I see that there’s a full-page ad in the newspaper, which is very, very, very expensive, and if the taxpayers are financing this, I would think they could be more judicious in how they spend their money. Please, if someone knows, call in.”
— Washington County

“This new recycling outfit had better buy a broom and a dustpan because they dumped that blue tub all over the street completely, broken glass and everything, picked up a few larger items, and then drove right on.”
— Hagerstown

“I’d like to thank the Boonsboro carnival for having such good entertainment Monday night, with the Hubcaps. I really enjoyed myself.”
— Washington County

“The question in Mail Call Friday was, is it legal to use a cellphone while driving? Of course it is. I’m a foremost expert on cellphones, and it is legal, as long as you’re not breaking another law. Believe me, I know. I have had seven accidents due to driving while using a cellphone, and I’ve never been charged one time.”
