Gregory Keith Moyer, of Mineral, Va., passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, after a long and courageous battle with esophageal cancer.

Greg is survived by his wife, Christine (Collins) Moyer, and their son, Mark; a son, Michael; and a daughter, Melissa. 

Born July 16, 1954, in Hagerstown, Md., to Donna E. (Seibert) Moyer and the late Keith R. Moyer, he is also survived by his sisters, Drenda Miller and husband, Gary, of Hagerstown, Denise Oliff of Manassas, Va., and Dawn Merritt and husband, Mike, of Smithsburg, Md.; as well as in-laws, John and Carol Collins of South Riding, Va. Greg is also survived by nephew, Will Merritt of Smithsburg; nieces, Natascha Fearnow and husband, Brent, of Hagerstown, Jessica Jacobs and husband, Justin, of The Plains, Va., Stacey Fields and husband, Derek, of Manassas, Megan Romberger and husband, Ryan, of Waynesboro, Pa., and Emily Merritt of Smithsburg; one great-niece, Rileigh; and two great-nephews, Kaden and Logan; extended family; and several lifelong friends.

Greg spent his childhood in Smithsburg and Fairfax, Va. He graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in Manassas in 1972.

After graduation, Greg worked as an automotive mechanic through the mid-1970s before embarking on a career with Moyer and Sons Moving & Storage of Clarksburg, Md., in 1977. At Moyer and Sons, he worked as a tractor-trailer operator and an operations manager. During this time, he visited every state within the U.S., excluding Hawaii and Alaska. In 1989, he joined Hilldrup Companies (agent of United Van Lines) as the first manager of the firm’s Richmond, Va., branch and vice president of its corporate headquarters in Stafford, Va. He retired that position in June 2011.

Greg loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed tinkering with cars, traveling, auto racing and boating. Greg will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by all of those whose lives he touched.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 13156 Edgemont Road, Smithsburg, MD 21783 at 1 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at Fauquier Springs Country Club, 9236 Tournament Drive in Warrenton, Va., on Sunday, June 24, 2012, from 2 to 6 p.m. The Rev. Julie Brigham will officiate at the events. Both are offered to family and close friends.
