Commissioners meeting in Funkstown on July 31

FUNKSTOWN — The Washington County Commissioners will meet at Funkstown Town Hall at 7 p.m. July 31, Funkstown officials said Monday.

The commissioners occasionally hold meetings in the county’s different municipalities. The commissioners are meeting at Smithsburg Town Hall at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Reduction of zoning administrator’s costs discussed

FUNKSTOWN — Funkstown Mayor Paul N. Crampton said he will talk to the town’s zoning administrator to see if his contract costs can be reduced.

In reviewing the monthly bills for the town during Monday night’s Town Council meeting, Councilman Richard Gaver noted it cost the town $600 a month to hire Richard Grimm as zoning administrator. Gaver proposed cutting what is paid to Grimm or looking into hiring someone else.

Gaver said his request to try to get the price down has nothing to do with Grimm’s performance. Grimm had been at the meeting earlier for a zoning matter, but had already left by the time the bills were discussed.

Crampton said he would renegotiate with Grimm, and if that was not successful, he would ask the town clerk/treasurer to see how much it would cost to hire someone else.
