Firearms business expected to open in Funkstown this summer

June 11, 2012

FUNKSTOWN — A firearms business that serves primarily law enforcement is expected to open in the former Funkstown post office building this summer, the property owner said Monday night.

Parker Bandy Firearms has been operating in a residential basement in Smithsburg, but was looking for a storefront, property owner Doug Arnall told the Funkstown mayor and town council on Monday night.

The company does not keep a large inventory of firearms and ammunition, doing much of its business online and helping customers with orders, Arnall said. The company also sells accessories such as holsters, he said.

The store will open at 4 E. Baltimore St., Arnall said.

Arnall needed the council to agree not to enforce an old parking lot requirement the Board of Zoning Appeals ordered for the property years ago. The council voted 5-0 to not enforce the need for a parking lot in lieu of Arnall having an agreement with St. Paul’s Lutheran Church to use three parking spaces in the church’s parking lot.

Councilman John Phillips III was absent from the meeting.
