FREDERICK, Md. — Amanda Hutzell, who has completed her junior year at Hood College, was recently inducted into the Chi Alpha Sigma national honor society.

Chi Alpha Sigma honors junior and senior student-athletes who have achieved excellence in athletics and academics, saluting those who have maintained a 3.4 or higher grade-point average.

Amanda graduated from North Hagerstown High School, where she was a member of the girls soccer team, winning the Washington County championship all four years she attended.

She is the daughter of Steve Hutzell of Hagerstown and Karen Washington of Funkstown.

In addition to having worked part time at J.C. Penney for the past four years, Amanda will  participate in an internship at High Rock this summer.

She plans to graduate from Hood in 2013.



Rachel L. Drury of Williamport was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Radford University in Virginia.

Rachel is majoring in merchandising for fashion, and minoring in marketing for fashion and sociology. 

She is a 2011 graduate of Williamsport High School and is the daughter of Anthony and Michelle Drury.



NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. — The following area students graduated from Merrimack College on May 20:

SEARCY, Ark. — The following area students were named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Harding University:

SCRANTON, Pa. — The following area students graduated from the University of Scranton on May 26:
  • Albert Louis Evans of Hagerstown received a Master of Business Administration in general business from the College of Graduate and Continuing Education
  • Bethany Payne of Smithsburg received a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction from the College of Graduate and Continuing Education
  • Lil-lee Angel Ross of Smithsburg received a Master of Science in human resources from the College of Graduate and Continuing Education
  • Kathleen M. Alexander of Fayetteville, Pa., received a Master of Science in curriculum and instruction from the College of Graduate and Continuing Education



SCRANTON, Pa. — Kayla L. Kyle of Smithsburg received a Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Scranton’s College of Graduate and Continuing Education on May 26.



PITTSBURGH, Pa — The following area students graduated from Chatham University on May 21:
  • Allison Bodine of Frederick, cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in film and digital technology and art and culture
  • Jane Rice of Greencastle, Pa., Doctor of Nursing Practice
  • Kathryn Stratmann of Falling Waters, W.Va., Master of Landscape Architecture



JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. — Benjamin Cofer of Thurmont, Md., was among students honored recently with inclusion on Carson-Newman College’s dean’s list for the spring semester.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Michael Smith of Hagerstown graduated this spring with a Bachelor of Science in engineering from LeTourneau University.



HOUSTON — Kyle Byrne of Clear Spring graduated from Rice University on May 12.

Byrne received a Bachelor of Arts in architecture.



WORCESTER, Mass. — Sarah M. Feldberg of Greencastle, Pa., received a Master of Arts in English from Clark University on May 20.



PITTSBURGH — Allison Bodine of Frederick, was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Chatham University. She graduated May 21.



SEWARD, Neb. —  Mary Krc of Frederick, earned a Bachelor of Science in education with high distinction from Concordia University on May 5.

Lewis also received the Fashion Design Program’s Academic Program Award and was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester.

OMAHA, Neb. —  Maureen Jones of Hagerstown, a third-year School of Pharmacy and Health Professions student at Creighton University, was named to the spring dean’s list for the 2011-12 academic year.



BOCA RATON, Fla. — Catherine Wolf of Hagerstown was named to the dean’s list for the spring semester at Lynn University.

Wolf is a junior in the College of Education.

She is the daughter of Bruce and Kristin Wolf of Hagerstown.



GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. — Craig Trueblood of Smithsburg graduated from Gwynedd-Mercy College on May 12 with a Bachelor of Science in biology.
