MYERSVILLE, Md. — Working from her Ford Explorer, Dr. Moira Nusbaum offers veterinary care for horses living 45 to 50 minutes from Myersville.

PenMar Equine Practice LLC offers routine care, treatment of lameness, including digital radiography, dentistry, reproductive work and emergency care through her mobile equine veterinary practice, which she opened in July 2011.

Nusbaum’s target market is horse owners and trainers who live in Frederick and Washington counties in Maryland; Greencastle, Waynesboro and Chambersburg, Pa.; and parts of West Virginia.

Nusbaum, who was a veterinarian for Piedmont Equine Practice in The Plains, Va., from 2010-11, said when she completed her veterinary studies at Virginia Tech, she wanted to move back home and open her own practice.

She grew up in Gapland, Md., and has lived in this region her entire life. With her experiences growing up riding horses in competitions, she knew the area was in need of an equine veterinarian.

“I couldn’t imagine living and working anywhere else,” she said in a news release.

She accepts appointments daily and handles emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
