1. Civil War weekend
Civil War ball and Valley of the Shadow exhibit preview is set for 7 to 11 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, City Park, Hagerstown. Second South Carolina String Band will perform. Period refreshments. $40 per person; $30 for members and living history interpreters registered with First Call Weekend. Tickets will be sold at the door and in advance. The museum will be closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday to get ready for the exhibit and ball. Call 301-739-5727.


2. The War of 1812
“In Defense of Our Nation: The Harpers Ferry Armory and the War of 1812” is a two-day commemoration that coincides with the 200th anniversary of the declaration of war and escalated arms production at the armory. Ranger-conducted programs, living history, family and youth programming, drama and music. David Hildebrand, pictured, and Ginger Hildebrand will present “Music of the War of 1812.” 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 16, and 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 17. Harpers Ferry National Historical Park, off U.S. 340, Harpers Ferry, W.Va. $10 per vehicle or $5 per person on foot or bicycle, good for three days. Go to www.nps.gov/hafe.


3. In Paris
“ Midnight in Paris” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, June 15, at Smithsburg Library, 66 W. Water St., Smithsburg. A family, including an engaged couple, travels to Paris for business and their lives are transformed. PG-13. (2011). Free. Reservations are required. Call 301-824-7722 to register.


4. Pastels on display

5. This little piggy ...
