Hagerstown to host AMVETS convention

Approximately 200 AMVETS, AMVETS Auxiliary and Sons of AMVETS members are expected to attend the annual AMVETS, Department of Maryland Convention, Friday and Saturday in Hagerstown.

The convention will be held at the Hagerstown Hotel and Conference Center on the Dual Highway.

The agenda for the AMVETS convention will include business meetings, and speakers on veterans’ issues and benefits. The AMVETS will award eight $1,000 scholarships during the convention.

On Friday night, the attendees will gather from 7 to 9 p.m. to auction donated items. The AMVETS accept items from the general public, and all donations are tax-deductible. The money raised at the auction will benefit the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center.

Saturday evening will feature the annual AMVETS banquet. Elected officials, representatives from area Veterans Affairs medical centers and commanders of area veterans service organizations are expected to attend. The AMVETS, AMVETS Auxiliary and Son of AMVETS members of the year will be announced at the banquet.

A welcome banner will be provided by the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau.
