Mail Call - June 6

June 05, 2012

“The county commissioners and Hagerstown City Council, and all elected officials in Maryland, remind me of a saying on the old Sunday comics: What fools these mortals be. Thank you, Herald-Mail.”
— Washington County

“On this solemn Memorial Day, several good articles were published in The Herald-Mail. In his true fashion, Leonard Pitts chose to contribute his column to the TV remote control. Why does The Herald-Mail continue to publish his biased and worthless articles?”
— Hagerstown

“After everything the Williamsport High School baseball team’s been through, for them to win the state championship is awesome. Thanks, team.”
— Williamsport

“I’m reading the Tuesday Herald-Mail. Not a word about the thousands of people without power. What a shame.”
— Hagerstown

“This is in response to a comment in today’s paper, May 29. Yes, John Delaney is a labor union progressive, running for the congressional district as a Democrat, against Congressman Bartlett. But I’d like The Herald-Mail to tell me has Mr. Delaney bought a house in the 6th District, or is he still hanging on to his properties that are not in the 6th District? He’s a wannabe, for sure. And one way to make sure he is not our congressman is to vote. Please, please, people, vote.”
— Hagerstown

“I was reading the comment from a Hagerstown caller about comparing Hagerstown to Greenville, S.C., and other South Atlantic leagues. Did this caller take into consideration the per capita income, which is very low in Washington County; the proximity to larger venues that offer the same thing; the taxes that Maryland residents are already smothered under? These things need to be taken into consideration, too.”
— Williamsport

“I have a suggestion for the dangerous curve on Route 66, featured in ‘What’s wrong with this picture?’ on May 28. The State Highway Administration should reinstall the amber blinking lights that they removed from the curve that was redesigned, and install them at least 300 feet before the curve, which is downhill from the redesigned curve, which causes more speed when entering the hazardous curve ... until the curve is redesigned.”
— Boonsboro

“Question: Is Frederick a vital city? Question: Is the ball park for the Frederick Keys downtown? Answer and conclusion: A ball park downtown is not necessary for a vital downtown. Putting a ball park downtown Hagerstown is a terrible idea.”
— Hagerstown

“I wonder when (they) will finish what they started on Route 11 in Greencastle? They come in, tear up a road, and leave. Meanwhile, those who have to use the road has their tires, shocks, and wheel alignment messed up by the bumps and humps they have created. Doesn’t anyone ever check on these contractors?”
— Greencastle, Pa.
